For the past few years we have been able to offer 55 places on the Year 5 residential trip to Castleton.
The Hollowford Centre is approximately 2 hours away on the edge of the village of Castleton in Derbyshire. It is in the heart of the Peak District National Park. The site is in a secure location and all activities that the children will encounter have been risk assessed.
Activities
The activities that the children can experience during the day may include:
· Abseiling
· Climbing
· Archery
· Problem solving
· High ropes
· Bushcraft
· Zip wire
· Raft building
· Canoeing
· Disco night
· Movie night
· Team building
· Walk to the village for an ice cream
Activities are both on and off site. Some of the activities that are offsite will involve travelling in a minibus driven by the centre staff. They are no more than 40 minutes away. Also, we attempt a challenging hike on the Wednesday and stop off for a picnic and a visit to Treak Cliff Cavern.
Medical
A first aid qualified overnight Duty person will be available from 7pm through to 8am Monday to Friday.
All members of staff are familiar with First Aid as well as the centre staff (who are all First Aid trained) and will deal with any medical problems should they arise. Each activity has access to appropriate first aid equipment and the centre has links with local doctors and dentists. However, we will of course contact you if a medical problem arises that we are unable to deal with.
Food
The centre caters for thousands of children each year. The standard of food is excellent. The children have a good choice from an interesting and varied menu which changes every day. Vegetarians and special dietary requirements are catered for, portions are generous and the centre staff and teachers will make sure no-one goes hungry!
Booking a place
When your child enters Yearr 5 there will be an opportunity for you to find out more by attending a meeting at school. We can discuss any concerns and answer any questions that you may have.
Letters will then be sent out to all Yearr 5 pupils to invite them to go on the trip. Usually, around 55 pupils are interested. A deposit is paid through Parent Pay at a given date to secure a place.
