British Values
At Lisle Marsden C of E Primary Academy, we develop and promote British Values throughout our school and within our curriculum.
“We want every school to promote the basic British Values of democracy, the rules of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs”. Lord Nash
A key part of our plan for education is to ensure our children become valuable and fully rounded members of society who treat others with respect and leave school fully prepared for life in modern Britain.
The British Values:
- The Rule of Law
- Democracy
- Individual Liberty
- Mutual Respect
- Tolerance for those of different faiths and beliefs
To do this our children will develop:
- An understanding of how citizens can influence decision-making through the democratic process
- An understanding that the freedom to hold other faiths and beliefs is protected in law
- An acceptance that people having different faiths and beliefs to oneself (or having none) should be accepted and tolerated, and should not be the cause of discriminatory behaviour
- An understanding of the importance or identifying and combating discrimination
Being part of Britain
At our school, we celebrate the diverse background and heritage of everyone within our community. We value celebrating being part of Britain and this is underpinned throughout the curriculum and within our collective worship themes across the year.
Geographically: Our curriculum includes a progression of understanding where we live in our world. Reception investigate our local area and this builds to digging deeper into UK cities, counties and countries in Year 3. This then develops into looking at where Britain is on a global scale in Year 4 to Year 6.
Historically: Our history curriculum enables the children to study an ancient and modern historical account of Britain. The children will gain a breadth of knowledge of British history during their time at Lisle Marsden including Vikings, WW2 and Stone Age Britain.
RE: As a Church of England Academy, we promote tolerance of different faiths and beliefs and make sure we expose the children to world religions and different beliefs and faiths within our RE curriculum.
